What is the history and popularity of the app?

Let It Cast is an application that was built on Stanley Kubrik's problems when casting "Full Metal Jacket". In 1986, he lived in London and had a fear of flying. He was unable to board an airplane to the U.S. to do a traditional casting call. Instead, he placed advertisements in the U.S. trade papers asking actors to record audition tapes and send them to him.

Building on this vision, Let It Cast takes the audition process online. Their very innovative tools provide all of the information needed for all parties involved in the casting process. The site averages between 1,000-3,000 unique visitors each month.

The app was founded by Yoktan Haddad and Laurent Touil-Tartour in 2009.

What are the differences to other apps?

Let It Cast takes online casting to a new level. It puts all of the tools and resources needed by the three main players in the film industry in one place. By consolidating the tools, casting is easier for all parties and the app is very easy, intuitive, and free.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

Once registered, users are advised to complete a Profile. For this review, the Talent section was utilized. This area required first and last name, country of residence, photo, union affiliation, gender, height, ethnic appearance, languages, training, resume in PDF format only, hire locations, telephone number, and bio/news. A photo is requested, as well as the age range the talent can play. Schools, coaches, or any other acting training is requested. Talent must also indicate what languages they can speak (at any level). The profile also asks if the talent currently has an agent and which union affiliations they have. Talent can indicate a preference to receive casting alerts when they match a new role that is being cast. They must also indicate what hire locations they are willing to travel to and lodge at their own expense. The short bio and/or recent news may include links to other sites, including YouTube, Vimeo, or other video sites.

Once the profile is complete, users may view castings. Casting listings may be filtered by country. Each opportunity indicates the name of the project, type of project, director, casting director, number of roles, audition locations, and the end date for casting. A user may then click on a casting opportunity to read the synopsis, view the producers and screenplay writers, production dates, and exact locations as well as the union. Also available are the roles available, including gender, language, ethnic appearance, age playing, accent if needed, and any other requirements determined by the company such as the actor's comfort in nudity situations. An audition document is provided with instructions for filming an audition for the selected role. Some of the casting listings provide a video from the people who will be casting the role.

How does the registration process work?

Producers may call to request a demo after registering with name, email, telephone, company name, IMDb (if available), project title, category of project, and whether they wish to use private audition management, online open casting call, or both. Agents and Talent must provide an email and password.

A confirmation email with link is sent to the email provided. Users are then allowed to sign in using the information provided.

What does it cost to use the application?

The app is completely free to use for producers, agents, and talent.

Who would you recommend the application to?

This application is useful for a number of people. Producers have full control over how they list their casting call and can review auditions online. Student film makers may cast roles without having to pay for advertising or, at times, actors who are looking for exposure. Talent can list their resume and particulars for free and view available projects from all over the world. All of the information is provided, so they know exactly what the producers and directors are looking for. They have the ability to audition online so that they don't have to show up to a casting call.

  • Completely free to use
  • Detailed profile provided for those casting or auditioning
  • Ability to submit audition online
  • Easy to use
  • Thorough interface for casting directors
  • Efficient way to audition or view auditions
  • Great way for talent to get discovered
